Debate Takes First in Lampasas
Wednesday, November 3, 2010 • Posted November 2, 2010

The cross-examination debate team of Annie Albrecht and Eleanor Kirkscey took first place as the Blanco High School Debate team captured the sweepstakes championship at the Lampasas Speech and Debate Tournament held on Saturday, October 23. Fifteen schools entered the tournament.

The sweepstakes trophy was unique—a mantel clock.

Albrecht and Kirkscey finished the day with a perfect 4-0 record, defeating 4A Ennis in the last round of the day. The team of Jacob Hallenberger and Tyler Hernandez finished in fourth place with a 3-1 record.

In Lincoln-Douglas debate, Chris Barnett finished second overall with a 4-0 record. Maegan Wilson was third, Tate Baker, fourth, and Samantha Primeaux, fifth.

“The Lampasas tournament was a big win for the team,” said Wilson. “We won sweepstakes without having entries in interpretation or extemporaneous speaking.” Primeaux, said, “Our LD and CX debaters were amazing at the tournament. Even though we did well, we still have room for improvement for the La Vernia tournament in two weeks, and we’ll have the additional support of the individual events.”
