Wednesday, November 3, 2010 • Posted November 2, 2010

Clean out your garage or attic and what do you find? Stuff! Glassware, books, art work, toys, jewelry , photographs, documents etc., some new and some old and you wonder, what is the ‘stuff’ worth? Find out on November 6 at the Old Blanco County Court House. On that day, there will be an Antique Appraisal and Historical Document Preservation Event.

The event, sponsored by Friends of the Blanco Library, raises money for your library. Certified antique appraiser Carolyn Rankin and Associates of San Antonio and local gemologist Robert Cox will provide on-the-spot estimates of the value of your items. Carolyn and Robert will discuss what goes into determining the value of an item before providing their opinion of what it is worth. Registration for items to be appraised will begin at 12:30. Appraising will begin at approximately 1 PM. Participants will be given a number at registration, and items will be examined in numerical order. The audience has the opportunity to see the various items being appraised and hear the estimates of their value.

Historical Document Preservation will be conducted at no charge by graduate students from the Public History Program at Texas State University beginning at 11:00. They will scan historical photographs and documents and photograph artifacts related to family histories and the local and community history in Blanco. This information will be made available for deposit with the Blanco Library. Information on preserving artifacts, documents, and photographs will also be available. This free service preserves our local history. Information about the Public History Program can be found at www.txstate.edu/history/degrees-programs.html

Carolyn Rankin is also a published author. Her book, Healing Music, is the story of her healing journey through the crippling effects of degenerative bone disease. After years of pain, loss of mobility, and hopeless diagnosis, Carolyn experienced restorative correction and healing at the hands of God and some very skilled and special physicians. During her recovery and rehabilitation she also experienced something quite supernatural and unexpected, Healing Music, from heavenly sources.

Large furniture items can not be accepted for appraisal due to limited space and accessibility.
