Junior Varsity Defeats Lago Vista
Wednesday, November 3, 2010 • Posted November 2, 2010

The Panther JV team posted an exciting 20-19 victory over the Lago Vista Vikings on Thursday, October 28. Lago Vista moved the ball down the field for an early touchdown on their first possession. The Vikings missed the extra point attempt, taking the lead 0-6 over the Panthers.

The Blanco offense put together their own scoring drive fueled by a bruising run by Tyler Brown. QB Alex Palos then connected with Kyle Sauceda for a 25 yard gain. Palos ran the ball to the 2 yard line on a keeper and Brown, along with the Panther offensive line, punched into the end zone for the score. The Panther’s 2-point pass conversion failed, leaving the score tied 6-6.

The Vikings quickly scored again on their next possession and kicked the extra point to take the lead 6-13. On the kick-off return, Cove Chick gave the Panthers good field position with a 25 yard return to the 45 yard line. Palos tossed a pass down the side line, hitting David Ramirez for another 25 yard gain, putting them on the 4 yard line. In scoring position, the Panthers would not be denied. As the half-time buzzer sounded, Palos completed the TD pass to Colton Childress, who also ran in the 2-point conversion. The Panthers were up 14-13 at the half.

In the third quarter, Blanco scored quickly after a 35 yard pass from Palos to Ramirez. Again, the offensive line pushed back the Lago defense as Palos scored a TD on the run. The 2-point conversion was no good. Blanco was still ahead, 20-13.

The remainder of the game was a defensive battle. Brian Brecka sacked the Vikings QB on a 4th down, stopping a Lago drive. Lago managed to score once more in the 4th quarter, but the defense held them on the 2-point attempt. Lago then attempted an on-side kick, but Jace Ammons recovered the ball for the Panthers. Blanco controlled the ball as time expired, leaving them with the win and a final score of 20-19.
