Keep Blanco Beautiful has teamed up with Blanco Middle School to promote recycling in our community. Our goal is to encourage recycling through awareness. November 15, 2010 is America Recycles Day. In honor of this special day, Blanco Middle School science teachers are taking their students on a short field trip to the Blanco Recycling Center. Teachers have found that the knowledge base of the students varies widely. Some students use the recycling facility on a regular basis, while other students do not even know that we have a recycling center.
County Commissioner Paul Granberg will meet each group of students at the center and talk to them about recycling. Mr. Granberg will inform the students of the materials accepted at our center and teach them how the items need to be sorted. He will then show students how the crusher/compactor machines work. Retta Martin, with our local organization, Keep Blanco Beautiful, will join us and hand out some free recycling-related materials.
The public is invited to visit the Blanco Recycling Center and participate in the program also. To accommodate the school’s schedule, the presentation will be given at the following times: 8:10am, 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:45am, 12:45pm, 2:00pm, and 2:45pm. Please drop by and join the students in this day of education and fun! Our recycling center is located at 402 Jones Ave, between the cemetery and Highway 281.
Blanco has a wonderful recycling center that accepts glass, two types of plastic, paper, cardboard, tin, and aluminum. Please do your part to keep recyclable materials out of the landfill and get them back in the loop. Help us Keep Blanco Beautiful!
