Psalm 37:23 “23 The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.” (NLT)
Have you ever asked God to order your steps? Have you ever sung the song? Well, if you sang the song, you asked Him!
I quote the words of the song “Order My Steps Lord”:
“Please order my step in Your word. Please order my tongue in Your word. Please guide my feet in Your word. Please wash my heart in Your word. Please order my steps in Your word.”
Well, I went on a retreat recently, with a group of women whom I believe have asked God to order their steps. And, as Psalm 37:23 above states, God is delighted to be involved in every aspect of our lives!
I told some of the people there that I wouldn’t share details of the retreat in my articles, and I certainly won’t, because there were a lot of tears shed (mostly mine), but the Lord filled our hearts with His joy, peace, and love. It was awesome, and I hope I never forget it.
One thing I must share is what I told three ladies in the car on the way back home. They asked me why I got to have a room all to myself. I said I really don’t know, but perhaps it’s a blessing from God, kind of a reward for sharing His Word in the newspaper for the past three years. I didn’t deserve that room.
All weekend I had wondered why they gave me that room! And, as I examined myself, I saw that there was not one thing in my entire life that I had done to deserve that room, aside from sharing God’s Word in the paper.
Women wear many hats and have many jobs. And in each role I played, I failed miserably. As a child I disappointed my parents. As a student I was lazy. As a friend, I've lost many. As a wife, I’ve been left for other women. As a mother, I could have done better. As an employee, I've made mistakes.
I could have completed my degree in college. As a seamstress, I have many projects incomplete. As a musician, I could practice more. As a homemaker, I need help!
I can’t keep a clean house, my garden doesn’t produce much, and I’m overweight. I’m 54 and I look back at my life and see many failures, wrong choices and many losses.
So, as I look forward to being in heaven on judgment day, when the Lord looks at my miserable mess of a life and asks me what I have done for Him, and what did I do with what He gave me; how did I love my neighbor, and why do I deserve to be in heaven, all I can tell Him is that I love Him, and I believe in His precious Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ. I have not earned it. Even the good I've done doesn't seem good enough.
And when the girls asked me why I got that room, I said “Maybe God blessed me for sharing His Word in the newspaper for three years.” Because over the weekend I had asked myself, too; and that’s all I could think of. I did not deserve it.
Psalm 37:23 “23 The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
Perhaps He placed the idea in the ladies hearts to give me the room. He must have! He does those things to encourage us. We need encouragement. On the battlefield, you get shot at.
