Blanco FFA Livestock Teams Start Strong

The Blanco FFA Livestock Judging Teams are off to a strong start for the 2010 – 2011 school year, having competed and placed high at their first two contests. Blanco’s junior team had a solid showing at the First Annual Lampasas Livestock Judging Contest held Saturday, October 30, placing 3rd overall. Team members included Maggie Reininger, Brenna Wallace, Hannah Garrett, Kelton Marek and Kolby Marek. Individually, Maggie did well placing 7th overall. In the senior division, Alex Gustafson, Kylie Leachman, Maggie Dennis, Callie Culton, Skylar Itz, Ed Alvarado, Tyler Hardin, Ryan Edwards, Mackenzie Johnson, Joanna Delavan, Kristin Bowman, Amber Garibay, Trey Hunter, Ryan Feagans, Carlin Green and Cody Perez also had a good day, placing 2nd with Alex winning 1st high individual overall.

These same FFA members continued to do well as both junior and senior teams placed high at the Heart of Texas Contest in Brady on Saturday, November 20. The senior team of Alex Gustafson, Skylar Itz, Tyler Hardin, Sam Isenberg, Maggie Dennis, Mackenzie Johnson, Callie Culton, Kellam Nabers, Carlin Green, Ed Alvarado, Kylie Leachman, Ryan Edwards, Amber Garibay and Trey Hunter placed 2nd overall while also placing 1st in cattle, hogs and questions. As an individual, Alex Gustafson tied for 1st place in the senior division with Ed Alvarado placing 3rd, Amber Garibay 4th, Kellam Nabers 7th and Ryan Edwards 8th. Each of these individuals also won numerous ribbons in each species. In the junior division, Kelton Marek, Kolby Marek, Cade Felps, Jonathon Campbell, Malinda Campbell, Carly Haack, Asher Haack, Brenna Wallace and Maggie Reininger also did well, placing 2nd overall in addition to placing 1st in sheep, 2nd in hogs and 3rd in questions. Brenna Wallace also placed high individually, winning 1st place among the juniors.

Next up for these students will be the Bexar County Livestock Judging Contest, which is held annually in conjunction with the Bexar County Livestock Show the first weekend in January.
