Mustangs Nip Panthers In Semi-Finals
Wednesday, October 31, 2007 • Posted October 30, 2007

The BYFL JV Gold team faced the Marble Falls Mustangs in the North division semi-finals on Saturday. The Mustangs would score on their opening drive but the conversion attempt was stuffed, leaving the score 6-0. The Panthers would struggle in the first half, unable to mount any significant drive, but defensively would hold the Mustangs from threatening again. In the second half the defense came on fire, shutting the Mustangs down completely, but the offense continued to struggle. With two minutes remaining in the game Colton Elrod would take a reverse down to the Mustang 15. From there the Panthers could not punch in, and the Mustangs took over on downs. It appeared the game was over, until the Panthers recovered a fumble at the 18 yard line with 26 seconds remaining. It was not to be the Panthers day as they were unable to take advantage, leaving the Mustangs victorious with the final score 6-0.

The coaches were extremely proud of the effort, not only for the game but the season. The Panthers had finished the regular season at 6-1 and in first place, and considering the roster it was a huge accomplishment. Of the 19 players on the JV Gold, 12 are 4th graders, and four kids had never played football before. With competition against 4A & 5A schools the kid’s accomplishment is a testimony to their hard work and dedication. Thank you players and parents for a great year that was a blast, and look forward to greater things next season!
