Ever wonder what 30 wild and crazy Blanco women do on Mondays and Thursdays? They laugh and pant and grunt and sweat—did I forget giggle, stretch and breeeaaaaathe?
Every Monday and Thursday at 5:30, the “Blood, Sweat and Tiaras” women’s fitness class meets at the Gem of the Hills. It didn’t start out that way. Eighteen months ago the group started with about 5 ladies. It was called cardio-sculpt to help women get an idea of what the class was—aerobic exercise combined with resistance training. The class grew and the women bonded.
Peggy Pepper, Blanco ISD school nurse, had never been much for exercise and certainly not “pumping iron!” But, after almost a year of classes, she is an exercise animal.
Then it happened. One of the premiere “exersirens,” Valerie Shoemaker, presented the group with tiaras, and the name, “Blood, Sweat and Tiaras” was born.
The women in the group are fabulous! They range in age from 20s to 70s and fitness levels from “I can’t believe she can do that” to “recovering couch-potato.”
So, if you’ve been meaning to start an exercise program but just weren’t sure what you should do, come check out this wild bunch of women at Gem of the Hills. For more information visit www.gemofthehills.org or just ask one of those fit, tiara-wearing ladies in the photo why she loves the class. Come join us. Nothing this good for you should be this much fun!
