Blanco High School hosted a junior varsity boys basketball tournament on January 6 and 8. The Panthers had enough players to make two teams, the JV “White” and the JV “Gold”.
The JV White team faced Center Point in the 1st round. The Panthers overwhelmed the Pirates, winning 72-12. Kyle Sauceda burned the boards with 27 points. David Ramirez dropped in 15, while Dakota Perkins and TJ Hardin sank 10 each.
In the semi-final round, the team out-paced the Natalia Mustangs, 60-28. Sauceda again led the team, busting the nets with 31 points. Quinn Dillard scored 12 and Ramirez added 9.
The Panthers met a solid St. Andrews “A” team in the finals, falling 42-56. Leading scorers for the second place Panthers were Ramirez with 13 points, Perkins and Hardin with 9 each, and Sauceda with 5.
The JV Gold team played a strong Mason team in the first round, losing 22-38. High-point scorer was Tyler Brown with 9 points. Gilbert Rodarte sank 4 points and Carlin Green made 3.
The Panthers next faced the St. Andrews “B” team and secured a third place finish with a 50-23 win. Top scorers for Blanco were Lane Hoelting with 12 points, followed by Gilbert Rodarte and Chandler Stewart with 10 points each, and Tyler Brown with 9.
On Friday, the Panthers traveled to Johnson City to battle the Eagles. Blanco started well with a 60-30 victory in the JV game. David Ramirez scorched the hoops with 16 points, Dakota Perkins sank 12, and Quinn Dillard added 10.
The varsity game did not end as well for the Panthers, as they fell 50-51 in overtime. Austin Carrola led the team with 15 points. Zach Barnes contributed 9 and Sam Isenberg, Tanner Rogers, Clayton Green, and Matt Pepper each scored 6 points.
On Friday, January 14 the Comfort Bobcats come to town for the rivalry cat fight in a District 8-AA face-off. Come out and support your team!
