The 67th Annual Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show was recently held in Kerrville, where 18 Blanco FFA members competed in the market steer, barrow, lamb and goat shows. Overall, three local exhibitors qualified for the premium sale, while several others earned prize money for their high places.
Leading the way for the Blanco FFA members was Jr. FFA member Kolby Marek, who won Reserve Breed Champion honors with his American Breed Cross market steer. Cody Perez also qualified for the sale after winning first place in the lightweight Dark OPB class of the market barrow show. Finally, Asher Haack placed a hog in the sale, finishing third in the middleweight Crossbred class. In addition to these high places, several others also faired well. Exhibitors and their placings included: Kylie Leachman, Reserve Champion Red Angus Heifer – 1st place middleweight European steer and a 4th place Red Angus Heifer; James Leachman – 3rd place Red Angus Heifer; Carly Haack – 2nd place lightweight American Breed Cross steer; Asher Haack – 4th place heavyweight American Breed Cross steer; Colton Childress – 3rd place American Breed Heifer; and Dalton Savanich – 10th place Crossbred and Medium Wool lambs. Other Blanco FFA exhibitors were Kristen Bowman, Karley Burnett, Reilly Burnett, Ryan Edwards, Alex Gustafson, Trevor Hardin, Kelton Marek, and Brenna Wallace.
These same exhibitors, plus several others, will now begin preparations for upcoming shows in Ft. Worth and San Antonio. Advisors for the Blanco FFA and Blanco Jr. FFA are Jason and Felice Marek.
