It Pays to Spay
Wednesday, February 2, 2011 • Posted February 1, 2011

As of December 31, 2010, one thousand feral and pet cats who make Blanco County their home have been helped by the Blanco County Cat Coalition (BCCC) since the coalition was founded in 2004. In 2010 alone, 325 cats received assistance.

To celebrate its success, and encourage continued spay/neutering of cats, the BCCC has launched It Pays to Spay.

The Blanco County Cat Coalition will pay you up to $25 to spay or neuter your cats. To qualify, the cats must be residents of Blanco County and you must be willing to make your own appointments, take in your cats, pick them up, and pay the bill.

Then, send a copy of the bill to: BCCC, PO Box 757, Johnson City, Texas 78636. The bill must include the following information: Name, address and phone number of the owner, date of surgery, whether the cat is male or female, and that the bill has been paid. We will then send you a check for up to $25.

This offer is only good for surgeries done through February 28 and only while the BCCC has money budgeted for this program.

For a list of low cost veterinarians and clinics, visit our web site at or call the Cat Phone at 512-318-5875

Another BCCC goal for 2011 is to interest more county residents in joining the coalition. At present, the position of BCCC treasurer is open. If you would like to apply for this position or learn more about what the coalition is planning for 2011 and beyond, including an emergency shelter, please join us for the next Blanco County Cat Coalition meeting on Tuesday, February 8 at 6 p.m. in the Blanco Library. Everyone is welcome.
