New Boutique Offers Unique Items
Wednesday, November 7, 2007 • Posted November 6, 2007

It started as an idea between two friends who wanted to open a local venue for their novel homemade products. When all was said and done, five women, each with unique businesses of their own, opened a charming boutique, The Vintage Cottage, just off the square in Blanco.

Jill Hunter, owner of Texas Lavender Hills, and Rebecca West, owner of Baby Bella, were already selling their products on-line, but they wanted a way to promote them locally. When they began to talk of opening a store in Blanco, both of their moms, and Rebecca’s sister-in-law decided to join them. Jill’s mother, Mary Lian, owns Dancing Bees, Rebecca’s mother, Belinda Downing, is owner of Paisley Daisy, and Rebecca’s sister-in-law, Debbie West, owns Sweet Memories.

The Vintage Cottage opened their doors in August, and so far, business is great. Offering great products and reasonable prices, The Vintage Cottage is filling a niche in the local market. Mary Lian stated, “We wanted to give the local communities the opportunity to find things you might not in a small town, without having to go to a large city.”

The variety of products is quite diverse, including hand made baby clothes, lavender products, antiques, home décor, and specialty gifts. They are already expanding their offerings by bringing in products by Fischer & Weiser, linens, shams, coverlets, towels, kitchen items, mixing bowls, women’s sleep apparel, and jewelry. They also have plans to add garden items in the spring, and maybe even offer seating in the back.

Services that they provide include, Baby and Bridal registries, special sales, and, during the Christmas season, they will offer gift-wrapping.

Plans for a Grand Opening are still in the works. Open Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM, they are always willing to help you find that special something.
