Citizens Rally to Support State Park
Wednesday, February 9, 2011 • Posted February 8, 2011

With Blanco State Park named one of seven state parks that the legislature would like transferred away from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Blanco area residents are reacting and campaigning for the continued existence of the asset.

Jo Nell Haas has organized the group Citizens for the Blanco State Park to help inform and coordinate supporters.

The group will be hosting a community meeting at 6pm on Tuesday, February 22, at the Old Blanco County Courthouse. Haas reported that Texas Parks and Wildlife will be sending a representative to speak and listen.

For more information about Citizens for Blanco State Park and the upcoming meeting, call Jo Nell Haas at 830-833-5695. Visit the Facebook group.

Texas Parks and Wildlife is asking for flexibility to make their own cuts to account for the 25% reduction in funds, rather than making the cuts as decided by the legislature.

Haas pointed to another resource, Texans for State Parks, which has legislative information available online at texansforstateparks.org.
