Softball Slams into Season

The Lady Panthers battled the St. Michaels Lady Crusaders in their season opener Monday, February 14. St. Michaels led by 6 runs at the beginning of the 6th inning and held off a late rally by the Panthers for a final score 3-6.

Pitching for the Panthers were senior Chandler Ashley and sophomore Callie Culton. They combined for four strikeouts, six walks, and seven hits.

Leading the Panthers in hitting were Callie Culton with three hits and two RBIs, sophomore Kelsey Schwind with two hits, and junior Andrea Torre with one hit. Chandler Ashley and freshman Deanna Sevilla each took first base on a fielder’s choice. Sevilla also added an RBI. Senior Hillary Calzoncit made a sacrifice bunt to advance runners.

The Blanco runs were scored by freshman Taylor Guinn, Chandler Ashley and Andrea Torre.

The Panther softball team travels Friday and Saturday, February 18 and 19 to the Seguin Huber Ranch Softball Complex to play in a tournament hosted by Navarro. Friday game times for the Panthers are scheduled for 9am, 3pm, and 7pm.
