For the past two weeks, more than 40 Blanco FFA and Blanco Jr. FFA members traveled to San Antonio to take part in the annual San Antonio Livestock Exposition. As a result of their hard work, many of these FFA members were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments.

Leading the way for the Blanco FFA was junior FFA member Kelton Marek, who exhibited the Reserve Champion American Breed Cross Market Steer. In addition to qualifying for the premium sale this past weekend, Kelton was also awarded an $8,000 S.A.L.E. Scholarship.

Other Blanco FFA members qualifying for premium sales this past week included Kylie Leachman and Trevor Hardin. Kylie also placed in the market steer show finishing 3rd in the Light Weight Limousin Class, while Trevor exhibited a 5th place Crossbred Market Lamb.

Other ribbons were awarded to the following students for their success at this year’s show: Grady Childress – 5th place Santa Gertrudis Heifer, James Leachman – 6th place Red Angus Heifer, Hanna Garrett – 7th place Duroc Gilt, and Colton Childress – 10th place Santa Gertrudis Heifer.

Many of these same students, along with others, will now travel to shows in San Angelo and Houston before completing the major livestock show season at Austin.

Advisors for the Blanco FFA and Blanco Jr. FFA are Jason and Felice Marek.
