Wednesday, February 23, 2011 • Posted February 22, 2011

Joseph Romero and his mother, Sylvia Romero, competed in the Livestrong Austin Marathon on Sunday, February 20. Both runners competed in the half marathon and each ran a total of 13.1 miles. The race started at 7:00 a.m. right behind the Texas State Capitol and ended near 7th and Congress. There were 10,523 finishers who participated.

This was Joseph’s first attempt at marathon running. He is an avid runner and decided to run this half marathon about 6 weeks ago. Joseph finished 28th in his division (ages 1-19) out of 144 with a time of 1:47:57. This averages out to approximately 8.21 pace per mile.

His mother is a veteran runner and has completed four half marathons since this past November, beginning with the San Antonio Marathon, Decker Challenge, 3M Half Marathon, and the Livestrong Austin Marathon. Sylvia’s time was 2:10:51, 45th out of 346 (50+ division), 9.96 pace per mile.

Good luck, Joseph, with your new endeavor!
