Are You Abraham's Seed?
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 • Posted February 22, 2011

In Hebrews 2:16 Amplified version it is written “16For, as we all know, He [Christ] did not take hold of angels [the fallen angels, to give them a helping and delivering hand], but He did take hold of [the fallen] descendants of Abraham [to reach out to them a helping and delivering hand].”

Well, before I could go any further with my study of God’s Word in Hebrews, I had to figure out whether or not I was a descendant of Abraham, and if the promises of God to Abraham and to his seed, applied to me. So I figure someone reading this might need to ascertain that, too. This is for you. We’ll get back to Hebrews next week! When you get to a Scripture and need more understanding, begin by asking God in your heart to give you His wisdom, and then read the entire chapter with that verse in it. If you still need help, please seek out your pastor. I began with the New Testament.

Matthew 1:1 “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” American Standard Version (ASV)

This chapter goes on to explain the 14 generations of Abraham to David, 14 generations from David to the Babylonian exile, and 14 generations from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah to understand the lineage of Joseph and Mary, and Jesus.

Matthew 3:7 “When John realized that a lot of Pharisees and Sadducees were showing up for a baptismal experience because it was becoming the popular thing to do, he exploded: "Brood of snakes! What do you think you're doing slithering down here to the river? Do you think a little water on your snakeskins is going to make any difference? It's your life that must change, not your skin! And don't think you can pull rank by claiming Abraham as father. Being a descendant of Abraham is neither here nor there. Descendants of Abraham are a dime a dozen. What counts is your life. Is it green and blossoming? Because if it's deadwood, it goes on the fire.” The Message

Right here John the Baptist says it doesn’t make any difference if you are really a descendant of Abraham or not. He said it’s “neither here nor there”. He said “It's your life that must change.”

In Matthew 3:9 John also said “And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.” KJV

“From stones!” Did you see that? And look at this one.

“Taken aback, Jesus said, "I've yet to come across this kind of simple trust in Israel, the very people who are supposed to know all about God and how he works. This man is the vanguard of many outsiders who will soon be coming from all directions—streaming in from the east, pouring in from the west, sitting down at God's kingdom banquet alongside Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Then those who grew up 'in the faith' but had no faith will find themselves out in the cold, outsiders to grace and wondering what happened." Matthew 8:10 The Message

So this clearly says many outsiders will be coming from all directions! Even if we were not born a Jew, and are an outsider, we will be coming from all directions! Jesus said so! And is not Jesus, Son of God, even God in the flesh? So what He says goes.

Matthew 22:29 “Jesus answered, "You're off base on two counts: You don't know your Bibles, and you don't know how God works. At the resurrection we're beyond marriage. As with the angels, all our ecstasies and intimacies then will be with God. And regarding your speculation on whether the dead are raised or not, don't you read your Bibles? The grammar is clear: God says, 'I am—not was—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.' The living God defines himself not as the God of dead men, but of the living." Hearing this exchange the crowd was much impressed.” The Message

Jesus clearly told us to marry God, or establish our relationship with Him, while we are alive; ‘cause it’s too late after we die! I just love this next Scripture. I too, feel like the most fortunate woman on earth since I married God (established my relationship with Him)!

Luke 1:46 “And Mary said, I'm bursting with God-news; I'm dancing the song of my Savior God. God took one good look at me, and look what happened— I'm the most fortunate woman on earth! What God has done for me will never be forgotten, the God whose very name is holy, set apart from all others. His mercy flows in wave after wave on those who are in awe before him. He bared his arm and showed his strength, scattered the bluffing braggarts. He knocked tyrants off their high horses, pulled victims out of the mud. The starving poor sat down to a banquet; the callous rich were left out in the cold. He embraced his chosen child, Israel; he remembered and piled on the mercies, piled them high. It's exactly what he promised, beginning with Abraham and right up to now.” The Message

Praise God!!!

Luke 1:55 “For he made this promise to our ancestors, to Abraham and his children forever.” New Living Translation (NLT)

John 8:34 “Jesus said, “I tell you most solemnly that anyone who chooses a life of sin is trapped in a dead-end life and is, in fact, a slave. A slave is a transient, who can't come and go at will. The Son, though, has an established position, the run of the house. So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through. I know you are Abraham's descendants. But I also know that you are trying to kill me because my message hasn't yet penetrated your thick skulls. I'm talking about things I have seen while keeping company with the Father, and you just go on doing what you have heard from your father.” The Message

John 8:37 “Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message.” NLT

John 8:39 “Our father is Abraham!” they declared. “No,” Jesus replied, “for if you were really the children of Abraham, you would follow his example.” NLT
