Who’s Who In the Blanco Cemetery
Part 5
Wednesday, March 2, 2011 • Posted March 1, 2011

Have you been to the cemetery lately? Reading the tombstones—the dates, the quotes, the words baby, mother, father, and other inscriptions—causes the heart strings to be pulled. Some of the tombstones are very old and weathered and hard to read. Often a lonely rock marks the grave. In one of the following sections there are graves of a father and mother and below in the next row are three of their children who did not grow to adulthood. These tombstones hint of hardship and a heritage of which we can be very proud.

This month, according to our cemetery constitution, we have our annual cemetery association meeting. Watch for the notice to appear in the paper. The meeting is usually held at the library. Please come and join us.

Along the fence line of the cemetery on the northwest side there are little round markers that show the section of the cemetery you are in. They are placed every 50 feet. Often a grave has the tombstone in one section and the length of the grave in another section. The rows curve a little and it is difficult to be certain which grave is in which section. Remember that we are presenting the graves from the back (Jones Street) to the front (Hwy 165).
