Wednesday, November 7, 2007 • Posted November 6, 2007

Tillie LeDoux was born Matilda Emily Weirich at Morris Ranch near Fredericksburg to Alvina Hilker and Henry Jacob Weirich. She attended school at Morris Ranch until her family moved to a Johnson City farm in 1920.

Tillie was one of seven children, four boys and three girls. She was the eldest daughter, born July 3, 1912. She was a beautician as a young woman, and married her husband, Walter, on August 18, 1940, in San Antonio, where he was stationed in the Air Force. After the World War II, Tillie and Walter lived in Panama Beach, Fla.; Waco, and Randolph AFB in San Antonio.

They retired to Johnson City where Tillie's brother Albert built them a home near his own and that of their parents. They lived there 40 years before moving to Fredericksburg in 1993. Walter died in 1996, and Tillie lived on her own until February 2007, when she broke her hip and moved to Windcrest Nursing Home. She passed away on October 26.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Smith and husband Dock of Fredericksburg and Barbara Elmore and husband Don of Waco; granddaughter Amy Grandjean and husband Chris of Bryant, Ark.; great-granddaughter Ella Marie Grandjean of Bryant, Ark.; her sister, Marie Williams of Stockton, California; brother, George Weirich of Johnson City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Johnson City or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fredericksburg.
