Lady Panthers Rally for Win Over Llano, Fall to Canyon Lake

The Lady Panther softball team scored a 7-3 victory over the Llano Lady Jackets on Tuesday, February 22.

In the 5th inning, Mishelle Calzoncit scored a run on a Llano fielding error. Trailing 1-3 at the top of the sixth, the Panthers exploded with six runs to win the game.

Kelsey Schwind started the rally with a deep fly ball to left field. Deanna Sevilla nailed a line drive down third base to bring in the run. Chandler Ashley hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Deanna. Taylor Guinn hit a hard grounder for a single and an RBI. Mishelle Calzoncit and Hillary Calzoncit both hit grounders to fill the bases. Alex Gustafson blasted a drive down the third base line to score the three runs. Andrea Torre came in as a base runner for Gustafson. Callie Culton got a hit and advanced Torre, who then stole home for the seventh Blanco run.

Alex Gustafson led the Blanco batters with a single, two doubles, and three RBIs. Callie Culton pitched the distance for the win.

On Friday, February 25, however, the ladies fell to the Canyon Lake Lady Hawks, with a final score of 1-7.

The Hawks led by five runs at the end of the fourth inning. Alex Gustafson ripped a double in the fifth to start a Blanco rally. Callie Culton hit a double to bring home base runner Andrea Torre for the lone Blanco run. The Canyon Lake defense shut down the next eight Blanco batters to end the game.

Callie Culton led Blanco with a single, a double, and an RBI. Culton and Chandler Ashley pitched for the Panthers.

Blanco will host a softball tournament on Thursday, March 3, through Saturday, March 6. The Panthers play three games on Friday at 9:00am, 12:30pm, and 5:45pm.
