Wednesday, March 2, 2011 • Posted March 1, 2011

Greeted by family and friends, Carl Chandler was recognized on Friday, February 25, by Community Action, Inc. of Hays, Caldwell, and Blanco Counties for over 18 years of volunteer service to the agency. The brief ceremony included an opening prayer given by Pastor “Skip” Brasher of New Hope Lutheran Church and was followed with remarks by the Community Action Board of Director, Gaylord Bose. Mr. Chandler was presented with a board service pin and a beautifully decorated card that was made by current Head Start Children.

Mr. Chandler began his service to Community Action in 1993 when he served on the Head Start Policy Council. After serving three years on the policy council he was appointed in 1996 by the Blanco Neighborhood to serve on the Community Action’s Board of Directors. After serving three years as the community representative, Mr. Chandler was appointed by the Blanco County Commissioners Court to represent Blanco County. During his tenure Mr. Chandler served as Chairman of the Board from 1999 – 2001 and served on a variety of committees. One of Carl’s notable accomplishments was helping to secure room at the Gem of the Hills Activity Center for seniors in Blanco. This was accomplished in March 2000, shortly after the facility opened. This partnership continued until last year when the Senior Citizen’s Center moved to its current location at 820 4th Street.

“Carl has been a wonderful advocate for Community Action and Blanco County,” stated Carole Belver, Executive Director of Community Action. “His dependability and dedication will be missed.”
