Luke F. Sheppard III

Luke F. Sheppard III, 47 years old, died on November 2, 2007 at his parent’s home near Blanco after a long bout with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his parents, Luke Jr. and Margaret Sheppard of Blanco, brother, Walter Sheppard Jones of Friendswood, Texas, aunts and uncles Bob and Mildred Sheppard Jones of Blanco, Texas, Edith Smith of Leaky, Texas, and Emma Lee Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Luke completed high school in Alvin, Texas, and became an intelligence specialist in the U.S. Navy, and spent the next three years in Seoul, Korea, in the intelligence group. After four years in the Navy, he became a commercial diver after completing a two-year course at the College of Oceaneering in Long Beach, California. He worked as a diver until the oil boom collapsed and then completed a two and one-half year course at the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School and received a Master Gunsith Certificate.

He was working in Iraq as a fuel convoy commander to earn enough money to build his own gunsmith shop when he became ill.
