Spring Trash-Off Different This Year
Wednesday, March 9, 2011 • Posted March 8, 2011 10:00 PM

April 2 is the date set for Blanco’s annual Spring Trash-off, sponsored by Keep Blanco Beautiful. Groups are needed to help clean up our city. If you wish to help, please contact Retta Martin at 833-4720. Every year, dedicated citizens gather litter along our streets, creeks and river banks. Keeping Blanco clean is everyone’s responsibility and those who help are much appreciated, with lunch after a morning spent gathering trash.

The Boy Scouts and the high school Ag department will clean the river bank upstream from the park to Wayne-Smith Dam as part of the Clean Texas Waterways project. Their efforts help keep wildlife safe and our water clean for drinking and recreation.

The City Yard will not be open for trash drop-off. On April 16, the transfer station south of Johnson City (377 Transfer Rd.) will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for drop-off of all tires, batteries, electronics, paint, chemicals, oil, antifreeze, old fuel, fluorescent light bulbs, building material, scrap iron, appliances, furniture, mattresses, etc. For questions about disposal at the transfer station, call Mr. Granberg at 833-1077.

Blanco will collect yard trimmings, tree limbs and brush at the water treatment site at the end of 6th Street, where they will have a controlled burn pile. Contact the City office at 833-4525 to make arrangements to drop off yard trash.
