Dynamic Duo Head to State

Two Blanco Panther powerlifters have qualified for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting State Meet in Corpus Christi. Monica Flores and Erica Flores, both sophomores, qualified for state at the regional meet in Gatesville on March 5 by lifting the qualifying weight for their body weight classes. The qualifying weight is a combination of three lifts: the squat, the bench press, and the dead lift. Erica, competing in the 97 pound class, needed a combined total of 495 pounds and she lifted an incredible 525. Monica, lifting in the 105 pound class, needed a 565 total and she lifted 575.

In a meet at Brady High School on February 10, Erica placed first in the 97’s, Monica placed first in the 105’s, Phil Alvarado placed fourth in the 114’s, Gavin Garrow placed sixth in the 165’s, and Mike Garza placed fifth in the 242’s.

In a meet at Lago Vista High School on February 17, Erica and Monica each placed second, while Phil placed third, Ecce Bradfute placed third in the 165’s, and Gavin placed fourth. Mason LeBlanc lifted for fifth place in the 181’s and Steve Lieck placed fourth in the 200’s.
