Wednesday, November 7, 2007 • Posted November 6, 2007

As a result of their dominating 41 to 0 win over the visiting Sonora Broncos, the Blanco Panthers have clinched the 2007 District 8-AA Championship. In posting their second straight shutout, the Panthers limited the Broncos to just 125 yards while forcing a turnover deep in Panther territory on Sonora’s only threatening drive of the night.

Blanco would find the end zone in every quarter with Kevin Gray leading the way with a 17 yard run in the first quarter. Derek Tesch would follow with a conversion pass to Shane Klein as the opening quarter would end at 8 to 0.

The second quarter would start with Eric Collins sprinting 60 yards for the TD. Layton Dworaczyk would add the conversion run to increase the Panther lead to 16 to 0. Gray would follow on the Panthers ensuing drive dashing 75 yards for his second score of the night. Following a failed pass attempt the score would stand at 22 to 0. Finally, before the half would end, Derek Tesch would add a 1 yard touchdown for the Panthers to close out the half at 28 to 0 after another failed conversion attempt.

With the game well at hand, Blanco would close out the second half with two more scores via a pair of 1 yard runs from Gray in the third and Dal Dechert in the fourth. Ross McCormick would convert on one of the two P.A.T.’s to make the final score 41 to 0.

Offensively, the Panthers would roll up 263 yards on the ground, led by Kevin Gray’s 110 yards and 3 touchdowns. Eric Collins would also chip in with 80 yards and a score on just 7 carries, while Derek Tesch would connect on 5 of 10 passes for his second straight 100 yard passing night.

Defensively, Blanco would limit the Broncos to just 2.1 yards per play and only 8 first downs, while forcing two turnovers, an Anthony Vela fumble recovery and a Tesch interception.

While improving to 8 and 1 on the year and 4 and 0 in district play, Blanco will turn its sights to visiting the Mason Punchers. Mason will come into the game with a 4 and 5 record following a 17 to 0 win over Junction last week for their first district victory. Kick-off at the Puncher Dome is set for 7:30 pm.
