Owner Of Sans Souci Gardens Landscape To Present “Creating Woodland Edge”
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 • Posted July 1, 2008

The public is invited to attend a presentation by Cathy Nordstrom, owner of Sans Souci Gardens Landscape Design of Austin on Tuesday, July 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the Blanco County Library. The topic of Cathy’s presentation is Creating Woodland Edge. The presentation is being sponsored by the Blanco County Master Gardeners’ Association.

Most home sites are cut into an existing natural area to make space for the house. The edges that are created are referred to as woodland edge and are areas that, since recently disturbed, are ripe for an influx of invasive plants. Cathy will provide instruction on how to create an attractive, low-maintenance woodland edge that “heals” the cut and becomes a haven for wildlife. The additional benefits are spring blooms and fall colors that are a boon to the homeowner.

Sans Souci Gardens Landscape Design specializes in designing and installing natural landscapes. Sans Souci Gardens is a member of the City of Austin Green Building Program, and Ms. Nordstrom is a Master Gardener, Master Naturalist and Habitat Steward. She continues to learn about native plants as a member of the Austin chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Through her work and volunteer activities, Cathy enjoys educating others about the benefits of native plants and their effective use in residential landscapes.

The presentation will be held on Tuesday, July 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the Blanco County Library. The library is located in Blanco at 1118 Main St. between 11th and 12th Streets. Parking is available behind the library.
