Young Farmers and Young Homemakers Hold Joint Social

July 5, 1968

The Blanco Chapter of Young Farmers hosted an ice cream social for their chapter and the Blanco Young Homemakers on June 30.

The ice cream social was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Immel.

A film entitles “Cream of the Crop” concerning U.S. Olympic hopefuls for the 1968 Summer Olympics to be held in Mexico, was shown to the group before the refreshments.

Mr. H.G. Bendele, advisor of the Young Farmer Chapter, arranged the program.

Liza Phillip graduates

July 6, 1988

Airman Liza M. Phillips, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard of Star Route 4, Blanco, Texas has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force, Texas.

During the six weeks of training the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special training in human relations.

In additions, airman who complete basic training earn credits toward an associates degree through the community college of the Air Force.

She was a basic training honor graduate.

The airman is a 1986 graduate of Blanco High School.

ECA deadline extended

July 7, 1978

Blanco - - Eighteen Blanco citizens turned out for the Emergency Care Attendant course to train drivers for the Blanco Volunteer Ambulance last week.

In hopes that more people might respond to pleas for more participants, the course coordinator has extended the deadline to those interested in the course until Monday, July 10.

The class, originally scheduled to meet in the new fire station has moved to the old Baptist Church building thanks to the thoughtfulness of Jim Jones. The church building has a built in project for class films is air conditioned and has carpeting.

Anyone interested in still helping out with the ambulance can register this Monday July 10 at 7:00 p.m. The class will meet every Monday and Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the old Baptist church building through August 17.

Allen Haas in Korean exercise

July 6, 1988

Army Sgt. Allen L. Haas has participated in exercise “Team Spirit 88” in the Republic of Korea.

The exercises involved personnel form all military services of the Republic of Korea and U.S. support forces through training in combined operations.

The operations include the reception, staging, employment and redeployment of out of country U.S. augmentation.

He is the son of W.J. and Nelda L. Haas of Rural Route 1, Blanco, Texas.

Haas is a light wheel vehicle mechanic with the 62nd Air Defense Artillery at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Ms. Willkens Chairs CFF

July 7, 1978

The County - - Ms. Karen Willikens of Blanco acted the chairmanship of the annual fall campaign on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

She will be recruiting volunteers within the community to plan at “Kiss Your Baby-Breath of Line Campaign” to take place this fall. The purpose of this campaign will be to provide the community with information about Cystic Fibrosis and to raise funds to support research, education and care programs for children afflicted with cystic fibrosis and other lung damaging diseases like severe asthma, chromic bronchitis, and bronchiectasis.
