Blanco Cemetery Annual Meeting

July 19, 1968

The annual general meeting of the Blanco Cemetery Association will be held Tuesday, July 23, at 8:00 a.m. at the Blanco High School Cafetorium.

All members are urged to attend.

Millie Retzlaff

July 21, 1978

Blanco - - The home of Millie Retzlaff was the scene of this month’s Friendship 42 meeting with Polly Stone as hostess.

Eleven members and one guests attended. Eight games of progressive dominoes were played.

Prizes went to Melanie Felps, Hilda Smith, Inmgard Weber and Muriel Wagner.

Next months meeting is scheduled for August 9 at the Retzlaff residence.

Birthdays celebrated at Mill Nursing Home

July 20, 1988

Eddie Tindel and Pearl Byars were hostesses for the July birthday party at the Mill Nursing Thursday afternoon.

The large birthday cake was made by Eddie. Ruby Poenisch made the sour cream cake which was served with punch and coffee.

Those having birthdays were Viola Stevenson, Elizabeth Henderson, Lila Connell, Teska Petrie, Irene Malley, Nellie Zimmerman and Lyman Carlton. After singing “Happy Birthday” and presenting each with a birthday card, cake, punch and coffee were served to the residents and staff.

Guests were Mrs. Angnes Stevenson of Johnson City, daughter in law of Viola’s and Mrs. Louise Chaffin of San Antonio who was visiting her mother, Ella Brand.

Two of the birthday honorees were especially honored, Viola Stevenson who is 98 and Lila Connell, 92, for having reached that age.

A most delightful hour of visiting was enjoyed by all.

Free Clinic here set semi monthly

July 21, 1978

Blanco - - A free senior citizens health clinic will be held twice monthly in the Community Savings and Loan Building - - on the first and third Tuesday of each month, from 10 a.m. until noon.

Jean Lentz, RN, of the Hays County Public Health education and counseling - - plus screening for hypertension, diabetes and anemia.

The program will be for all men and women over 55 years of age, with no fees.

Dr. Johnson Opens Office

July 19, 1968

Dr. Harold Z. Johnson has opened his practice as a physician in the offices formerly occupied by Dr. Neill Dishon.

He moved here this week from Comfort where he was practice. Prior to this he was in practice at Pasadena.

He graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Gaveston in 1963. Previously he received a degree in industrial engineering.

He served in World War II as a Lt. Sr. grade on an LST.

Vacation Bible School Monday

July 21, 1978

Blanco - - The first Baptist Church will hold Vacation Bible School for children aged three years through eighth grade from July 24 through July 28, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Senior Citizen lunch July 28

July 21, 1978

The Senior Citizens are having a covered dish lunch Friday, July 28 at noon to celebrate all the birthdays in July.

Everyone is invited to come and bring a covered dish to the Senior Citizens on the Square in Blanco.

Kendalia hosts church revival

July 21, 1978

Kendalia - - The Kendalia Community Church will host a revivial on July 23-26 at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

Guest speaker will be Britt Towey, association with the Tao Foundation, a non-profit Christian Channel made for sharing Biblical missions with churches and groups.

Rev. Towery and his wife, Jody, have been saving with Christians in Bible Conferences, evangelistic crusades and seminars in Singapore, Macao, Indonesia, Burma, Celon, Philippines and Berlin for 20 years.
