Following FDA Consumer Warning, H-E-B Issues Precautionary Recall
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 • Posted July 22, 2008

(CENTRAL TEXAS) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning asking consumers to avoid eating raw jalapeno peppers or foods made from raw jalapenos to prevent additional cases of Salmonella illnesses. H-E-B is issuing a precautionary recall of all fresh jalapenos, fresh pico de gallo and prepared items containing raw jalapenos.

The recall by H-E-B is voluntary and only a precaution. No customers have reported any illnesses. Committed to ensuring the safety of its customers, H-E-B is removing the products from its stores immediately.

“Ensuring the safety of our customers is a top priority for H-E-B,” said Winell Herron, H-E-B Vice President of Public Affairs and Diversity. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will return the product to our stores once it is absolutely safe for our customers.”

The precautionary recall does not include canned, cooked or pickled jalapeno peppers.
