Group Gathers at Cemetery to Compile Information
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 • Posted July 29, 2008

On Saturday, July 26, 2008, twelve faithful Friends of the Blanco Historic Cemetery gathered just after the sun came up to garnish additional information about each beloved veteran in our cemetery.

Thanks to TD Smiley, who devised an interesting set of questions for each deceased member, we were able to list their first, last, and sometimes middle initial or name; birthdate and death date; military service, rank, and what war.

Claire Klepac has graciously consented to compile all of this information on a spreadsheet. Then we are going to add the section and number of the gravesite.

Because of Roy Finch’s knowledge of the “hometown” guys, we were again able to find eight more passed-over veterans. It is not my intention to ever miss anyone, but if I do, don’t hesitate to call 833-4950 (Rebecca Howerton) and let me know.

Many of the tombstones are in need of structural refurbishment, which is next on my list. We hope those of you who have loved ones in our cemetery will support those of us who have come out to put out the flags, etc.

Many thanks to June and Cliff Baird, Charlene and Raymond Singleton, Yvonne Logue, Phyllis Edmondson, Ron Zunker, Dorothy Dillon, Willie Olfers, and Yalene Hobbs, who came out in spite of the heat, to gather pertinent information about our dearly departed veterans. May we never forget what they did for our nation so we can continue to live and enjoy the freedoms we have today.
