4-H County Council Meets

August 2, 1968

The 4-H Council met July 10 at 8:00 p.m. in the County Courthouse. There were seven members and five adults present.

Plans were discussed for a 4-H County Camp. Decision was to hold it next summer.

They also decided on having one float for the Blanco County 4-H, instead of a float for each club, in the Fair Parade.

Tourney finals played tonight

August 4, 1978

Fredericksburg – The rain postponed championship finals of the Fredericksburg Little League Tournament will be played tonight (Friday) between Blanco and Marble Falls.

Original scheduled for last Friday night, the bad weather cancelled that date and then two other make up dates this week.

If the game cannot be played in Fredericksburg tonight because of wet grounds, it will be shifted to Johnson City - - but tournament director Neal Armstrong promised the championship game will be played, one place or another.

Blanco Council in legal talk

August 4, 1978

Blanco – City Administration Charles Sims announced just before press time that a special City Council meeting had been scheduled for last night (Thursday).

However, said Sims, it would be strictly a closed to the public session, as the council planned further discussion of pending litigation with attorney Dean Myane.

August 2, 1968

Stanley E. Morgan Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley E. Morgan of Blanco, has been promoted to sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

Sergeant Morgan is an aircraft equipment repairman at Hickman AFB, Hawaii, with the Military Airlift Command.

Chris Mehnke signs with Texas Lutheran

August 3, 1988

Coach Ray Katt of Texas Lutheran College has announced the signing of a top high school baseball player. He is Chris Moehnke, a left-handed pitcher from Blanco High School.

Moehnke was 18-5 the past two years for the Panthers and helped lead Blanco to the state finals this past season.

He is a three letter winner for Coach Bryan Wyatt and was named to All-District 29AA team his Junior and Senior seasons.

Moehnke, who also plays first base, will join a TLC team which won District 4 NAIA Championship this year and played at the Area 2 tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.

His parents are Larry and Debra Moehnke. Mr. Mohnke attended TLC in 1965-1966 on a baseball and football scholarship and he is currently superintendent of schools in Blanco.

Panther physicals

August 4, 1978

Blanco – Physicals for Blanco High School football candidates will be held August 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Dr. David Vause’s Hill Country Clinic, Head Coach Ronnie Barr announced.

Junior high physical will be given August 4 at the same time and place.

Shoes will be issued to high school players on August 9 at the football field.

Conditioning proactive will begin at 6:00 p.m. August 14 and run through August 17 with contact two-a-days beginning August 18.

The Panthers will visit Natalia for a scrimmage August 25, then host Harper for their final pre-season scrimmage September 1.

Prospect for both Blanco and LBJ High School and their opponents this year will be found in the County New’s pre-season football edition September 1.
