Since I’ve tasted the better life, I don’t want to turn back. Life is so much better now, walking with the Lord. I’m a living testimony. God fights my battles for me, and brings me through victoriously, every time, no matter what the outcome, I’m victorious. For great encouragement, read Psalms 91; Psalm 4; Psalm 5, and Psalm 27.
Psalm 91:3-4 – “3For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”
I’m not bragging on myself, I’m bragging on God. I remember the turning point. I had gone through so much pain and misery, there seemed to be nothing left but sorrow, and no reason to live. During that time a friend invited me to church. I turned back to God, and resolved to stay with Him.
He brought me through very gently at first, encouraging me often; bringing me His truth and light through great sermons, preaching and teaching. I took notes and began reading His Word fervently, and I understood what it meant to hunger and thirst for the Lord, because I began to hunger and thirst for His Word, and became addicted to it. I discovered that my days were better when I would read my Word in the mornings before work. I experienced a weekend that was so busy I didn’t take time to read my bible, and realized the problems I was going through Mon., Tues. and Weds. were a result of not reading my Word. I haven’t done that since. Sound crazy? It’s true. I never begin a day now without seeking the Lord by either reading my bible, listening to a sermon on CD during the drive to work, or just singing and praying in my heart (when I’m really running late!). God dwells inside those who believe in Jesus, so I know He hears me.
John 14:23 – “23Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.”
I began asking God for great faith, and trials began to happen, but I practiced (and believed) what I read, and each time I turned the problem over to God and prayed, He brought me through, and I realized that I had ventured out into the deep waters (so to speak) and it was a long way back to the shore. So now I dwell in the deep, and God is my life jacket, and He keeps me afloat and causes the sharks to be swallowed up by bigger fish! God’s will is better than mine! He’ll do the same for you, too.
I’m sharing this with you so you’ll see that if God has done this for me, He’ll surely bring you up and out of your miseries also. When you get serious and decide to turn to Him, and go to church, even if it’s by yourself, you’ll see your rewards begin happening. But you may have to make some big changes.
Proverbs 10:24 – “24The fears of the wicked will be fulfilled; the hopes of the godly will be granted.”
I actually prayed to God and asked for new Christian friends, which I’ve met through bible study!
Psalm 4:3 – “3You can be sure of this: The Lord set apart the godly for himself. The Lord will answer when I call to him.”
Psalm 19:7-11 – “7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. 9 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. 10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. 11 They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.”
