Blanco Cowboy Church Hosts 2nd Annual PlayDay
Wednesday, October 3, 2007 • Posted October 2, 2007

On Sunday, September 23, young cowboys and cowgirls rode in from many directions to compete in the 2nd Annual youth PlayDay at the Blanco Cowboy Church Arena. Books opened at 9 AM and closed at 10 AM sharp with all of the young cowboys and cowgirls and their families attending the full church service as their entry fee. The Ryon Krause Cowboy Praise Team opened the service with son, Hesston Krause, assisting cowboy Preacher Mike Weaver of Wild Ride Ministries from Harper, Texas. At the conclusion of the service, seven cowboys and cowgirls received Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior and were presented Bibles and welcomed into God’s Family.

Lunch followed outside at picnic tables under the huge oak trees, and was provided by the Charles Riley Family of Riley’s BBQ and Steak House. Riley’s provided a delicious concession all afternoon for the hungry and thirsty cowboys and cowgirls and their families.

The Church family scrubbed up the steer’s water trough and filled it with ice and free cold bottled water for their many visitors.

Following the 35 minute lunch break, PlayDay Leader, Jauny Keith, along with her many church family workers, serving as bookkeepers, timers, flagmen, announcers, gatemen, arena judges, and helpers, announced the first of five events for all four age groups.

Charlotte Calhoun and Jodi Fuchs held non-horse events on the northwest side of the arena for all of the children not competing horseback.

Clark Holmes of Flying H Rodeo Sound provided the outdoor sound system for the event, and Alamo Kicker’s Trail Riders Association provded their western cowboys and cowgirls port-a-potties.

When the dust settled and the sun was setting, the following PlayDay winners were awarded their prizes:

PeeWee (0 to 6) All Around Champion Gist Buckle won by 5 yr. old Slayton Benner ( The Buckle was donated by The Blanco National Bank)

Sub Junior (7-10) All Aroun dchampion Gist Buckle won (tie) by two brothers, Ricky & Phillip Guerra(the Buckle was donated by Security State Bank 7 Trust and Thomas Shackleford.) Instead of tossing for the tie buckle, the two Guerra brothers chose to share their buckle)
