The Blanco Band Booster organization was pleased and delighted to welcome back Brandon Aly to the staff of Blanco ISD during their regular monthly meeting held August 25. Aly’s contribution to the band program has been instrumental in the continued success the band has achieved over the past several years. The percussion section, under Aly’s direction, has earned distinction for many years with annual first place awards for outstanding percussion performance at festivals and at UIL competitions.

Aly graduated from the Booker T. Washington School for the Performing Arts in Dallas. After graduation he studied music composition at Richland College and it was during this time that his friends from high school formed the New Bohemians, a band fronted by singer Edie Brickell which earned the group gold and platinum albums on the pop charts in the 1980’s.

The band’s most famous song is “What I Am” from “Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars” released in 1988. The New Bohemians released a new CD in 2006 entitled “Stranger Things” in which Aly placed a dedication to the Panther Band which was distributed internationally.

Aly recently performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2006 and with Paul Simon in Central Park in 2007.

Currently Aly is the drummer with local favorite Blanco Zydeco.

The Blanco Band Boosters were extremely pleased and expressed thankfulness toward Blanco ISD for returning Aly to continue his work with the students of Blanco ISD. Welcome back Mr. Aly.

The Blanco Band Boosters holds its regular meetings the fourth Monday of each month at the high school band hall at 6:30 p.m. and all are welcomed.
