Dear Editor:

Support Blanco EMS

During the past few months several individuals have expressed opinions of incidents related to Mark McMain and the Blanco EMS. I for one will miss Mark and the position he held as much as anyone. The Blanco EMS has attended to my wife, my son, various employees and their families and friends. The fact of the matter is, Blanco needs the EMS and the remaining hard working members of EMS need support from our Blanco residents.

State agencies are breathing down their necks requiring reform and change. With the help from the Bulverde-Spring Branch EMS, interim director, Mechelle Salmon, has stepped in to assist with these changes. There are also others from BSB that are assisting, including ambulance drivers and paramedics.

There are steps in place to provide a Board of Directors for the Blanco EMS. Area residents have volunteered for a committee to help with by-law changes and other procedures as required by state agencies and to help in any way that they can.

If you were at the Friday night football game, you got a front row seat in watching our EMS in action. Across the highway the ambulances were on the move, traffic controlled and the arrival and departure of a helicopter transport of a patient. On top of all that, there were individuals volunteering their time so that if anyone was injured during the game, response time would be minimal. Sometimes we take all this for granted.

Blanco’s EMS has provided the community with outstanding service over the years. Our area is growing and as it does, the cost to maintain this service also grows. Contributions are always appreciated and are needed, but don’t always need to be monetary. Volunteers are encouraged for EMS. We now have a “Paint/Maintenance Day” slated for Friday, September 12 at the EMS building. Then on Saturday, September 13, the Annual EMS Barbeque Fundraiser at Yett Park will take place. The cost of plates will be by donation. EMS will begin serving at 4:00pm till 7:00pm.

I for one am volunteering my time to help support the members of our Blanco EMS.A big “thank you” goes out from all of us here in Blanco, to Mechelle Salmon, interim director, the Bulverde-Spring Branch EMS and many others who are volunteering their time to help make all this happen.

Sincerely,

Wayne B. “Dirt” Dworaczyk

Interim Chairman Blanco EMS
