“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” - Jn 14:6. These words spoken by Jesus are both emphatic and exclusive. With this statement alone, He forever blows out of the water any notion that there are many ways to heaven. Man, with his limited knowledge and finite mind, likes to come up with his own philosophies about this verse, as well as the rest of Scripture. “Surely this must mean something else,” they would say. Let me assure you, Jesus said what He meant, and meant what He said. And if one wants to call himself a disciple of Jesus Christ, a “Christ-ian”; then by definition, he is to listen to and obey what Jesus says - not apologize for it.

The word “way” in the Greek means “the road, the route, the highway, the means”. Jesus said He is the highway to heaven. He is the means by which you get to The Father. He is the route you take to everlasting life. There are not many roads, there is one road. You may sincerely be on your own “path to enlightenment”, but be not deceived; if that path is not The Way, Jesus Christ, it will end with the eternal damnation of your soul. If you don’t like that, take it up with God; He’s the One that said it (Jn 3:36).

Jesus is the only way to The Father. You will not get to Him any other way (Act 4:12). Jesus said He is The door, the entry way into heaven (Jn 10:1-9). The outer gate (Mt 7:13-14)of the tabernacle courtyard, the door (Jn 10:9) into the holy place, and the veil (Heb 10:20) into the most holy place, were all types of Jesus Christ. Their colors were red, blue, and purple embroidery; symbolic of blood and royalty (Rev 19:13, 16). Thomas a Kempis wrote “Without the way, there is no going; without the truth, there is no knowing; without the life, there is no living.”

Jesus is the right way (2Pt 2:15, 1Sam 12:23, Act 13:10). This means that if you are not going the way of Jesus, then you are going the wrong way. Jesus left no middle ground. He said you are either for Him or against Him (Lk 11:23). In society today, moral relativism has become the norm for many, even inside the church. “Who am I to say what’s right and wrong? You believe your way, and I’ll believe my way. As long a we’re all sincere, that’s what really matters.” Wrong. Hitler, Stalin, & Mao Tse-tung were sincere; yet they murdered over 120 million people collectively. There is a right way, and there is a wrong way. If God says something is wrong, then it is wrong; if He says that it is right, then it is right.

Jesus is the way of truth, and teaches the way of truth (2Pt 2:1-2, Mar 12:14). Jesus is the way of righteousness, and has become our righteousness (2Pt 2:20-22, 1Cor 1:30). Jesus is the way of life (Heb 10:19-22, Prov 15:24, 12:28, 10:17). In Jeremiah 21:8, God said “Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.” The Bible clearly teaches us the way of life. It is Jesus, of course. Yet, if you want to choose the way of death, then that’s what you will have.

Jesus is the way into the most holy place (Heb 9:8-14). Before Jesus came, that way was not known; but now it is known. Jesus is the way into the presence of God (Heb 10:19). His Blood bought us the right to use His Name, which gives us direct access to The Father. When Jesus cried “It is finished!” on the cross, God tore the veil of the temple from top to bottom (Mt 27:51); showing us we now have the right as the children of God to come boldly unto the throne of grace (Heb 4:16).

Jesus is also the way of escape (1Cor 10:13). Jesus is your means to get out of any temptation. He is The Living Word, and He spoke The Word to defeat satan during His wilderness temptation (Lk 4:1-14). You must speak forth the Truth to obtain the victory (Job 22:28).

Lord willing, we will continue this next week. Until next time, rejoice in The Lord!
