Wednesday, October 3, 2007 • Posted October 2, 2007

The Principal, Dustin Barton, of Blanco High School announced that Siomha Moore has been named a Commended Student in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to the scholastically talented senior.

About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2008 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent or more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2008 competition by taking the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT.NMSQT)

“The young people named Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program are distinguished by their strong academic performance in the rigorous competition,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “Our nation’s pursuit of education excellence can be furthered by publicly honoring their outstanding students and by acknowledging the important role schools play in fostering their development. We hope that this recognition will contribute to their educational opportunities and encourage all students to strive to realize their potential.”
