John Alexis Fortune of Blanco was born March 15, 1921, in San Antonio, Texas, and passed away on November 17, 2007, on his Blanco County scenic rural property.

In the Navy during World War II, John flew in a PBY to rescue pilots in the South Pacific; he then was a patriot in the Air Force for 20 years.

John, predeceased by his wife, Jean Hall, whom he married on June 6, 1945, in San Antonio, is dearly labeled “Daddy” and “Grandpa” by family.

Survivors include children Shirley Powell, John Kent Fortune and wife Tanya, Kathy Allen and husband James, Richard Randall Fortune, Dana Lynn Hughett and husband Mark, Brian Kelly Fortune, as well as 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A grave side celebration of his life is scheduled at 11 AM, Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Fortune Family plot at Roselawn Cemetery in San Antonio, with military honors.

Arrangements are under the direction of Crofts Funeral Home of Johnson City, Texas.
