Hearing the screams of a woman, James ran to a parked car, thinking the woman was being taken advantage of. James was prepared for the worst. What he found was a young woman about to give birth in her front seat. Being in the middle of nowhere, James crawled in the car and assisted in the birthing of a 6- pound baby girl. After the birthing, the mother started to hemorrhage. James used blankets and wrapped his legs around the woman's to apply pressure to slow the bleeding. He sat there holding the newborn in one arm and the quickly fading mother in the other, fighting the freezing cold in a car that was out of gas. After some time, a passing car stopped and called emergency response. Being more scared then he had ever been on his entire journey, James was relieved to see the fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances that responded.
Continuing his travels, James came across a VW that had hit a tree, being crushed and wrapped around it enough to make it hard to even recognize the make of the car. James went up to the driver's window where the guy' s arm was hanging out of the busted window. The bottom half of his arm had been severed from his body and the man was bleeding out. James removed his belt to use as a tourniquet on the man's arm to stop the bleeding. Even though they weren't able to save the man's arm, the man got out of the incident alive.
Walking along a truck stop, in the vehicle were two men with the intention to mug James of the only thing he carried with him, his duffle bag. Preparing to get out, the men realized that the doors wouldn't unlock and the windows wouldn't open. Both men tried to budge the doors or kick out the windows, in a panic with the current happenings. James walked up to the driver's window and explained that they shouldn't be doing things of that nature, they were wrong, and God bless them.
The passenger was shocked and the driver angry. James smiled at the two men and was on his way again.
James has walked into buildings that were engulfed with flames firefighters couldn't even enter and brought out people, without any harm coming to either one of them.
He's pulled a man out of the water who was at the bottom of a pool for a considerable amount of time, proceeded to do C.P.R., and brought the man back to life in front of 500+ witnesses.
James has been on 20+ talk shows to be interviewed about his walk and his testimony. He has been on The Oprah show 3 times, been on radio talk shows, and in countless newspapers sharing his experiences.
James talks about his unwavering faith in the Lord and how God continuously protects him from all harm. When James has had to sleep out on the ground, he has awakened to poisonous snakes being curled up beside him and on his chest for heat. Having things thrown out the window at him as he walks - batteries, golf balls, trash, and none of it ever hitting him. How God provides for him, putting certain people in his path who will invite him into their homes for a hot meal and a warm bed. People walking out of their houses to bring him food, because they heard that he was coming.
Since James isn't allowed to ask us for help, he relies strictly on his faith. It was starting to get colder, and all James had was a light jacket, so he asked God for a heavier coat. The next night, walking through a town, he decided to stop for the night, lying on a piece of plastic to stay off the cold ground.
A police officer pulled up beside where James was bedded for the night. He got out of his car, went to the trunk of his car, and got out a heavy jacket and a couple of sandwiches. Earlier that night the officer's wife had heard at church that the walking pastor might be coming through their town, so the police officer drove around till he found James.
James has given his testimony to hundreds of churches, high schools, middle schools, prisons, street corners, and in cars to people who were nice enough to give him a ride, wherever God leads him.
The night he was led to our small congregation Bible study., we closed with a prayer. As we went through our prayer list, James prayed for the politicians who will be running in the upcoming elections and for the ones of us who will be voting, to give us the wisdom to make the best decisions, for this election decides the fate of so many.
We all left him that night with refreshed spirits and blessed thoughts. The walking pastor continues his journey to another town, another destination, so I leave you with this thought - be kind to strangers because you never know who they might be .
