Wednesday, September 17, 2008 • Posted September 16, 2008

The Uptown Blanco Art Center would like to thank the community for making our first seven months so extraordinarily successful. The fun continues by popular demand with new clubs and classes forming now.

Children have many amusing choices in art instruction. “Claytime for Kids” on Monday from 4:00-6:00pm for ages 5-11 is taught by the delightful Ann Grimm. “Recycled Art for Earth Kids” on Monday from 5:00-6:00pm for ages 5-11 is taught by local artists Suzette Connell. Tuesday brings “Painting for Kids” ages 5-11 from 4:30-6:00pm with Dan Gilroy. “Little Kids Art Club” ages 3-5 meet with master story-teller Maggie Goodman on Wednesday from 11:00am-1:00pm. Wednesday 4:00-6:00pm is “Drawing for Kids” ages 5-11 with art teacher Miss Marcia who also teaches on Thursday “Homeschool Art Class” from 1:00-3:00pm and “After School Art Class” from 4:00-6:00pm for ages 5-11, covering traditional art skills with a rich variety of mediums weaving in art history and cultural enrichment.

Club 13 for kids age 12-14 meets every Tuesday from 4:00-6:00pm. This club is an on-going art club that explores a new subject each week. Activities are geared for both boys and girls. Youth registered for this club may be dropped off at 4:00pm with $13 dollars and picked up at 6:00pm.

“Blue Monday” is adult fun on Monday evening. No commitment is required, drop-in to take one of the classics Painting, Drawing, or Pottery from 6:00-8:00pm. Pay as you go and only come to class when you have time and take the subject you are most interested in. Class sizes are limited so come early. The Art Center serves up coffee, sweets, and Blues too.

Accomplished Professor of Photography Joe Walsh will be teaching “Introduction to Photography” on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00pm for six-weeks starting September 23rd. This is an exclusive opportunity to learn from one of the all-time great photographers who is shaving off a little of his retirement to share his wealth of knowledge with students interested in understanding the art of taking remarkable pictures.

Thursday from 6:00-8:00pm has become “Art Party Thursdays” with free coffee, great classes, and artistic socializing that tends to move to a new location when class is over. “Stone Sculpture” is taught by master sculptor Bob Gottschall. “Beading and Macramé” is guided by Marcia Cash. And Zena Stetka Howe teaches “Monoprints and Monotype”, a pleasurable exploration of color and the one-time print. Also offered on Thursday is “Plein Air Oil Painting” taught by Terry Dunkum. This class paints landscapes on location in the great outdoors from 1:00-4:00pm or 6:00-8:00pm.

Art supply kits for Art I and Art II are available at the Art Center or from art teacher Perry Kuebel at Blanco High School!
