Johnson City, TX – Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park will celebrate the 24th anniversary of the signing of the Wilderness Act of 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson with a special screening of “American Values: American Wilderness” on Saturday, September 20. This 2005 film, first aired on Montana Public Television, is a presentation of the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center in association with High Plains Films.

In “American Values: American Wilderness, “ a diverse group of Americans, including a teen-age daughter of Cambodian refugees, a children’s book author, a cancer survivor, a native American tribal chairman, inner city kids, among others, share their values for wilderness. Their experiences and hopes are interspersed with inspiring photography of the beautiful wild lands that have captured their hearts. This film was a labor of love for Christopher Reeve; the actor donated his time and energy to his film as narrator in one of his last on-screen appearances before his death in October, 2004.

The 57-minute film will be shown at 12:00 noon and 3:00 p.m. at the LBJ National Historical Park Visitor Center in Johnson City. The noon showing will be introduced by National Park Ranger by F. Gus Sanchez, who will discuss the significance of the 1964 Wilderness Act. For more information, please call (830) 868-7128. Ext. 244.
