Blanco County Historical Commission Organizing Blanco County's 150th Celebration
Wednesday, November 14, 2007 • Posted November 13, 2007

The Blanco County Historical Commission held a meeting last Thursday, November 8, to discuss the upcoming 150th anniversary of Blanco County.

Ideas for the sesquicentennial celebration include exhibits on founding families on display in both courthouses, a re-enactment of the organization of the county's government portrayed in period costume, Confederate and Texas Ranger representation, and histories of courthouses, people, churches, and schools.

The historical commission will kick-off the year-long event in March of 2008 and hopes schools, merchants, civic groups, and organizations would help commemorate the formation of Blanco County.

"We're planning for the year," said Nell Krueger, who led the meeting. "The pageant will be the kickoff." Krueger reported that the County Commissioners have money set aside for the sesquicentennial.

The next meeting will be held at the courthouse in Johnson City this Thursday, November 15, at 6PM. Everyone is invited to attend to bring their ideas for Blanco County's Sesquicentennial. Volunteers and organizations are needed from Johnson City to participate in the events.

"This will generate a lot of excitement and interest in a place we love," Krueger said.
