BOERNE, TX—Boerne’s popular “Second Saturday”, an eclectic collection of galleries and ‘other walls’ that feature an evolving array of art in all media, is set to ‘moon’ the town during an ultimate ‘potty weekend’ on October 11, 2008 (1pm- 9pm) that includes the Thunderbox Road art exhibit. In fact, the whole month of October is an art aficionado’s dream as Boerne’s Mayor Dan Heckler is set to officially declare October “Art Month”.
Thunderbox Road is a traveling art exhibit of 12 outhouses (Thunderboxes) that showcase the artistic talents of 12 of the top artists in the Texas Hill Country, The outdoor art exhibit will be talk of the town as guests make their way around Boerne, an emerging art destination set against the natural backdrop of the Hill Country, and vote on their favorite in a “People’s Choice” contest that will award the winning artist $5,000. A free trolley will be on hand to take guests from venue to venue between 5 and 9pm.
On display in front of The Creek Restaurant, the “Thunderboxes” will remain on exhibit through October 20, and they will then tour multiple other cities throughout the Texas Hill Country. Underwritten by Sand Creek Post and Beam of Texas and Cedar Eaters of Texas, Thunderbox Road has a goal of increasing awareness of artists and arts organizations throughout the Texas Hill Country and to provide an asset for local festivals, wineries and venues to attract more local and regional visitors.
Participating galleries will be giving away a free ‘moon’ gift while guests enjoy complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres. Visit 12 of the 18 art locations around town and you’ll be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of dozens of valuable gifts from local Boerne businesses. Raffle winners will be announced during the 2008 Fall Festival of Arts and Music on October 18-21.
Tickets for the Second Saturday event are $10 and may be purchased beginning September 13, at any of the following participating locations: Bear Moon Bakery & Café, Bella Creo, Carriage House Gallery of Artists, COSAS, Creative Roots Studio, Ewe & Eye, Dodging Duck Brewhaus, Highland House Studio and Gallery, Garden Path Gallery, and Smilovici’s Galleria and Salon Infusion.
