Hill Country Artist Hosts Annual Studio Open House
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 • Posted October 7, 2008

Two exceptional artists will combine their talents at Kathleen Marie’s Wildwood Studio annual Open House the second weekend in October near Johnson City.

Kathleen Marie is an award winning artist working in Pyrography, the process of burning images into finished pieces of beautiful wood. The grain, form and textures of the wood, often native mesquite or pecan, become a part of the artwork itself. Kathleen sometimes adds colored pencil to further define and enhance the work.

Kathleen Marie’s incredible art is drawn from a wellspring of inspiration from Nature – horses, Longhorns, birds and all manner of wildlife in their native surroundings. She will have new originals for this show including some miniature pieces, and both matted and framed prints of her art. Kathleen has recently won Best of Show and Best in Media at the Texas State Arts and Crafts Fair and numerous other awards, and truly is a master of Pyrography.

Kathleen has invited fine art photographer Alexa Walker to join her at the Open House this year. Alexa has a distinctly different eye when approaching her subject matter, often turning Nature into the abstract or focusing on the artful expressions of rust. She also has a penchant for fall-down structures or whatever magic elements she might run across in her back road travels. Check out her website at www.3HeartsRanch.com.

The Kathleen Marie Studio Open House will kick off with a preview party on Friday, October 10 from 5 to 9 p.m., and follow with two more days of Hill Country fun, fine art and live music from some great Hill Country musicians on Saturday from 10 to 7, and Sunday from 11to 6, October 11th and 12th. The studio/gallery is located just off RR3232 from Highway 290 on the road to Pedernales Falls State Park. See Kathleen’s website, www.kathleenmariestudio.com for further details and directions.

Kathleen would also like to share her discoveries and efforts in her rainwater collection system, native plant and grass restoration, making the most of a Hill Country lifestyle, and will offer tours and hikes on her and her husbands beautiful land. Dress casual and comfortable, bring some friends, and make a day of it. Come on out for a weekend full of art, music and a little bit of adventure in a piece of Hill Country heaven.
