The BYFL Varsity team took on the Wimberley Texan blue team on Saturday in Johnson City. The Texans received the kick, but ran into a stout Panther defense that forced a punt after giving up one first down. The Panthers drove to the Texan 30 before turning the ball over on downs.
In the second quarter Wimberley found the end zone on a fly pass, and with a good conversion took the lead at 7-0. The Panthers responded by driving to the Texan 20, but time expired for the half. The Texans recovered an on-side kick to start the third quarter, but the Panther defense again held and forced a turnover on downs. Blanco struggled offensively and was forced to punt, but boomed a 46 yard kick that pinned the Texans back at their 30 yard line. Again the Panther defense shined, forcing Wimberley to punt. A short kick was fielded by Ty Royce and the Panthers took over at the Texan 40 yard line with 6 minutes left in the game. Aikman Elrod would run 36 yards on a QB bootleg to set up the Panthers with first and goal from the 4 yard line. The Texan defense would stiffen and force the Panthers backwards, and get the ball back on downs. Once again the Panther defense forced a punt, and Blanco had one final scoring attempt from the Texan 30 yard line. The Texan defense again held the Panthers, took over on downs, and time expired giving Wimberley the victory.
Overall the Panther defense played fantastic, with McKay Adamson, Andrew Burgess, Dylan Bates, Colton Elrod, and Hunter Goodman leading a defense that held Wimberley scoreless on the ground for the first time this season. The Panthers season record evened to 3-3, with the final game against Bulverde Red next week. If Blanco wins they would qualify for the League playoffs. A loss would create a tie for the final seed, with different tie-breakers applying. Special thanks to the cheerleaders and fans for staying and supporting the team.
