The Keep Blanco Beautiful volunteers have had a very busy 2007 year. We held the lst annual River Cleanup in conjunction with the Great American Cleanup and Don't Mess with Texas Trash Off. This was our 7th annual Trash Off. Throughout the 8 years that Keep Blanco Beautiful has been holding "Trash Off" days our youth and family volunteers and our Blanco City volunteers have moved hundreds of tons of solid waste out of Blanco. Metal has been one of our largest collections to move and recycle.

Paul Granberg, our Blanco County Commissioner and KBB director, has built one of the best recycling centers that a town our size can have. This has been done with CAPCOG grants. We have a second recycling center behind the Blanco Middle School on Rocky Road. Paul has helped get the grantsfor this center..

Because Blanco has the Blanco River running through it, the enforcement of Environmental laws is very important. The Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG), in cooperation with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), has announced the availiability of $442,000 in municipal waste implementation grant funding for the fiscal year 2008. Blanco does not have an environmental code enforcement officer. This grant could enable us to hire a full time officer to enforce our environmental laws to protect Blanco and the Blanco River.

Keep Blanco Beautiful, along with other organizations, groups and citizens, support the effort of the City of Blanco to apply for this grant.
