Wildcats End Panthers’ Season
Wednesday, December 5, 2007 • Posted December 4, 2007

The Panthers eleven game win streak and the 2007 season came to an end Saturday afternoon in San Angelo at the hands of the Idalou Wildcats. Idalou, one of the state’s top ranked teams, took advantage of field position and turnovers to jump out to an early 25 to 0 lead and then coast to their 13th win of the season.

After being shut out in the first quarter, and for most of the second, Blanco would finally strike pay dirt at the end of the first half on a 56 yard double pass when Ross McCormick stepped back to take the pass from QB Jared Newby and then fire a strike down field to Kevin Gray for the score. Although the Panthers would fail on the extra point attempt, they were able to go into the half with some momentum.

The Panthers would return for the second half of play only to see the Wildcats take the opening drive 80 yards for another score to go up 31 to 6. However, Blanco would answer on their next drive ending with a one yard run by Layton Dworaczyk.

Newby would add the two point conversion on a run to cut Idalou’s lead to 31 to 14. Although Blanco would regain momentum going into the fourth quarter, the Wildcats would strike one more time late in the quarter to put the game away and move on to the regional finals.

On game day, Kevin Gray would lead the offense with 52 yards on the ground as the Panthers would gain 226 yards as a team to go with 13 first downs. Defensively, Blanco was unable to force any turnovers while giving up 17 first downs and 311 yards to the 13 and 0 Wildcats. Blanco finishes the year 11 and 2.
