Lady Panthers Unable To Complete Tournament

As with each year, the Lady Panthers participated in the Johnson City tournament, which is a three day tournament.

In the first round, the Lady Panthers faced St. Stephens.

The Panthers took a small lead in the first period, with each girl playing her part as a team.

By half time, the Panthers only had a two point lead with the score 16-14.

Coming back from half time, St. Stephens made several three point shots which caught them up to Blanco and by the end of the third periodthe scorewas tied, 27-27.

The game then got rough in the fourth period.

Twice the Panthers were dribbling down the court and were obviously pushed out of bounds. The call was that the ball handler stepped out, so the ball went over the St. Stephens, they scored on each time.

The Panthers who got the lead back, held on to it until only 1:24 remained on the clock.

The St. Stephen’s coach called for his girl to foul, which she did upon his command. The foul was called a jump ball went over to St. Stephen’s tying up the game.

Sarah Kocurek got the ball from out of bounds and was dribbling down the court when St. Stephen’s moved in front of her.

Kocurek received the foul, alowing St. Stephens to shoot two free throws. Now, with only a few seconds left on the clock, the Panthers tried to get the ball back but each attempt they made resulted in a foul being called on them. The game ended with a final score Blanco 37, St. Stephens 41.

High scorer was Sarah Isenberg with 13 total points followed by Alisa Guler who had 11 points.

Kocurek finished with six points, followed by Lacee Hunter who had four points, Crystal Thomas with three points and Madeline Walker with one point.

The Panthers then returned on Friday to face Canyon Lake.

The Panthers were ready for this game, and quickly sank 22 points in the first period while holding Canyon Lake to only 2 points. While Coach Schultz did some rotating, the Panthers still held the lead as they sank 11 more points and Canyon Lake scored nine points. As the teams retired for halftime, the Panthers lead with a score 33-11.

As the Panthers reentered the court, they were ready to play some more ball. They sank another 21 points while holding Canyon Lake to only 13 points for the period.

The final score was Blanco 69, Canyon Lake 35.

High scorer was Kocurek with 22 points followed by Guler who had 16 points.

Isenberg finished with 8 points, Hunter and Warner had six points, Walker had five points and Thomas had four points

The Panthers would have been playing for consolation on Saturday, but due to the football game they cancelled their game and claimed consolation runner-up.
