Famed Athletes Unite to Aid Abused Texas Children
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 • Posted October 28, 2008

University of Texas football legends, Johnny “Lam” Jones and Johnny “Ham” Jones, unite to “Speak Up for Kids” at CASA for the Highland Lakes Area “Speak Up for Kids” 5K Run & Fun Day at the Park to be held Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Johnson Park in Marble Falls, TX. The 5K & festivities were originally scheduled 9/13; however, Hurricane Ike forced a reschedule. Cool, crisp autumn air will lend to a refreshing day!

Runners and outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to participate in the run and enjoy a day of live music, at Johnson Park’s Outdoor Pavilion from 9am – 3pm. Ant Hill Society (Home of Texas Soul) kicks the entertainment off from 9:30am – 11:30am and Marble Falls’ own, Daniel Conti with Drawing Back (classic rock & blues) will play from noon-3pm. Refreshment vendors will be on sight.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), a nonprofit organization, aids children that have been removed from their homes by the State due to abuse and neglect. Nationally, every 10 SECONDS, a child is reported abused or neglected. CASA provides direct services and court representation to such children, and saves taxpayers millions due to volunteer support. Last year, CASA volunteers donated over 6000 hours and drove over 26 thousand miles, saving local taxpayers $454,953.00, based on local pay scales and federal mileage rates. It is estimated that CASA will save counties more in 2008, based on current figures.

CASA for the Highland Lakes Area has served residents of Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano, & San Saba counties for 15 years; aiding children in need. “There can be no greater community responsibility than keeping defenseless children safe and preserving their future”.

Join former Olympic Gold Medalist, UT football hero, former New York Jets wide-receiver, and Official 5K Ribbon Cutter, Johnny “Lam” Jones, and former UT football great, Johnny “Ham” Jones, as they support efforts to “Speak Up for Kids”. Together we can help one child at a time…
