With the end of the year 2007 fast approaching, the Board of Directors wishes to announce that the Center will be closed beginning December 22, 2007, and will reopen January 5, 2008. This will give the volunteers time off to prepare for the holidays and be with their families. The Center is operated by volunteers only and no one receives compensation. Thanks to their efforts, the Center has helped a lot of families in the area. During the period that the Center will be closed, we ask the public not to drop off donations of clothing, etc. as there will be no one available to work with them. We thank the community for their generous contributions, especially since the profit from these goes to help people in need. We can sell just about everything except (1) clothes that are soiled, torn or missing buttons (2) worn-out and dirty shoes (3) broken electrical appliances, gadgets and nonworking computer equipment (4) broken or incomplete toys (5) cracked or broken glasses dishes. We are unable to wash or repair these items. In the month of November, 106 turkeys were distributed to families registered with he Center. The distribution of the turkeys handled at the Center’s location. In addition to the turkeys, other food items were distributed including stuffing, pumpkin, yams and cranberry sauce. This was truly a community effort, with the Blanco Middle School collecting 305 cans of food and several of the churches making food drives. The LCRA Employees Charities donated $500 and other private donations were received and are greatly appreciated.
On behalf of the Blanco Good Samaritan Center, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
